A new program that cuts the cost of funerals

As a service to the Jewish community, the Orthodox Union announces a new program, for the Metropolitan New York Area, that substantially lowers the cost of traditional funerals, while maintaining the heights level of adherence to halacha.

The OU has entered into a landmark agreement with Parkside Memorial Chapels, one of the most reputable, independent Jewish funeral homes, and with the Chevra Kadisha of the Vaad Harabonim of Queens, NY, one of the most respected chevrot kadisha, which will oversee all the halachic aspects of the program.

Under this plan, families who have suffered a loss should call Parkside or the OU (1-877-538-2926) and request the OU Levaya Funeral, at a fixed price of $3,945 with a chapel service, or $3,570 with a graveside service.

The Program includes:

  • Local transfer (hotza'ah) of the deceased within the five boroughs of New York, under the supervision of the Va'ad.
  • Tahara performed by the Va'ad.
  • Linen Tachrichim (shrouds) and traditional plain pine aron (coffin)
  • Use of any Parkside chapel.  There are Parkside chapels in Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Long Island and Monticello, NY.
  • Hearse to a local cemetery.

Tahara at Parkside Brooklyn chapels will be performed by the Chevra Kadisha of the Va'ad Harabbanim of Flatbush.

Arrangements can be made for shmira, for the participation of another chevra, the use of another chapel, or transfer to a cemetery in Israel, but these services may incur an additional charge. To take advantage of this wonderful program, you must be a member of the Orthodox Union prior to the time of passing. Please contact Mrs. Eva Holczer at 212-613-8137 to arrange for membership.

Please inquire about pre-need funeral arrangements.
