Day 1 - 07/07: Arrival, Ammunition Hill, Western Wall
Hello all!
I just wanted to update you on the status of the TJJ Ambassadors group! We landed today at around 12:45, and went straight back to the hotel to unpack and rest, and for a brief orientation.
We then went to Ammunition Hill, home of the battle that allowed the State of Israel to secure control of the old city of Jerusalem during the Six Day War. We learned how the soldiers who fought in the battle did so through the lens of the Mishna in Pirkei Avot, "Ethics of Our Fathers" which states that "The world stands on three things: Torah, Sacrifice, and Deeds of Kindness," - the three pillars of Judaism and its culture that were demonstrated by every soldier on that day.
Finally, we ended our day at the Western Wall. We walked out together, eyes closed, and then opened them in unison to see the sight! We then ripped our shirts in mourning of the lost Temples and in remembrance of the center of the Jewish people that once stood and flourished.
We finally returned back to the hotel and started preparing for the City of David tomorrow before heading to bed. Keep an eye out for details on that and pictures which are both coming soon!
Have an excellent Shabbat!
