2 Incredible Days on Michlelet NCSY!
Tuesday and Wednesday were a unique experience here on Michlelet NCSY as we spent both days on campus - a much needed break after our buzzing around for the last 2 and a half weeks!
Tuesday, being Shiva Asar B'Tammuz, the fast day that begins our 3 week mourning period leading up to Tisha B'av (fast day commemorating the destruction of our Holy Temple); was spent in a very meaningful way. We began our day with a fascinating and insightful shiur from Rabbi Steven Weil, Executive Vice President of the OU, followed by our usual classes and learning groups, many of which were specially prepared with topics regarding the fast day. We then had a special program for Shiva Asar B'Tammuz in which we were broken up into groups to assemble puzzles and then together decipher each puzzle's hidden message. We also watched a very inspirational video created by our program staff and each received a name of an ill or needy person to daven (pray) for and keep in our thoughts for the period of the 3 Weeks. For the duration of the day we had time to rest and relax until the fast was over, with optional movies playing throughout (Heroes of the Holocaust, Paper Clips). We devoured our delicious break-fast meal and sent off our Shana Bet-ers for a special evening tour of the Kotel Tunnels!
Today we were lucky enough to not only have another "in day," giving us a chance to relax and enjoy our classes and activities and our beautiful campus, but to be joined once again by TJJ Ambassadors! We are really enjoying getting to know them and spending time with them. Tonight we were treated to an amazing speaker, Mrs. Dena Schoonmaker, who spoke to us about our theme of the week, "A Time to Share." Our night activity, "See, Run, Build" kept us on our toes and it was lots of fun to see what kind of creations we managed to make while feeling lost in translation!
