Whew- was that close! NCSY Kollel’s alltime unblemished sports record and win streak was severely threatened on Thursday by a great basketball effort from our guests from Morasha’s Sulam program. There were quite a few Kollel fans who began to lose faith, but fortunately the Kollel All-Stars themselves never lost confidence and pulled out a very dramatic four-point victory over Sulam. Sulam got off to a fast start, and to add injury to insult we lost stalwart center Yoel Schreier to an early finger injury.
When Sulam entered halftime with a 10 point lead, it was looking quite grim. But an incredible comeback led by Shai Kaminetzky and Shlomo Rayman drew Kollel even, and two free throws in the final minute by Jeremy Teichman gave us the hard fought win. Not only was it the closes intercamp game in Kollel history, but it was a particularly inspiring display of middot and sportsmanship by both sides. Meanwhile, the hockey team spared us any real dramatics with a dominant 4-0 shutout over Sulam.
Rav Michael Olshin delivered a mussar talk to kick off our strong Thursday night mishmar program. Over 120 NCSYers took to the Beit Medrash late at night, and ended this awesome week in the best way possible.
