Sunday, August 7
As we entered the week of Tisha B’Av, our entire focus was squarely on preparations for that day. There were regular shiurim and chaburas through the day, and each took time to explain and illuminate the meaning of Tisha B’Av and our connection to it.
In the morning, we also heard from Dr. David Luchins, on the topic of the current global political scene. This important presentation, which touched on the Arab Spring, the US-Israeli Relationship, and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, forced the NCSYers to consider some greater world issues and to think more broadly.
Following Maariv, there was an optional shiur from Rav Benny Eisner.
Rav Benny has been a beloved educator in Israel for many decades, and is renowned for his passionate connection to the land of Israel. This year, Rav Benny has been dealing with some severe health issues, and has made a supreme effort to continue teaching and inspiring however possible. His talk was given in the main Beit Medrash, and was attended by over 80% of the NCSYers, despite the late hour.
