Shabbat in Jerusalem
Out of all the shabbatot I've had in Israel, this was by far the most incredible. We started off at the Kotel. We weren't able to join a minyan, so we created our own. I've never seen such ruach as I saw that night. We sang and danced and our passion attracted people from other groups into our circle. And throughout the entire experience the Kotel was right there in front of us, reminding us who we are and why were here. After Kabbalat Shabbat, we walked to the OU center and were fortunate enough to have dinner with David Cutler, director of summer programs. We ate delicious food and heard even more delicious Torah. The next day, we held a service in our hotel followed by lunch filled with equal amounts of ruach. After a nice shabbos shluffy, we went on a walk under the pretense that we were going to a lookout of the city. We were surprised when we ended up at our tour guide Giddy's apartment in the Wolfson buildings (it was on the eleventh floor so in the end we did go to a lookout of the city!). There he had a special treat for us: passionfruit and vanilla ice (he had the machine and everything!). Afterwards, we went back to the hotel and had seudat shlishit followed by a beautiful ebbing and havdalah. After Shabbat we got a free night out on Ben Yehuda street where many of us shopped and ate. A few of the favorites I heard were shwarma and frozen yogurt. Although we ate all Shabbat, Jews can never have enough food.
