The Shmuz @ Camp Sports
This past Wednesday, July 20th our kiruv camp NCSY Sports in Baltimore was treated to most inspiring words of chizuk by Rabbi Ben Tzion Shafier , director of Tiferes Bnai Torah/ The Shmuz.
The Rav spoke about how each individual is endowed by Hashem with great spiritual potential. A lot of times we underestimate our great worth and don't even try. Sometimes this is because we really don't know how great we could become if we just kept trying and most times its because we are convinced it is impossible and do not even start!
Rabbi Shafier compared this to the life of Winston Churchill. Here was a man who saved the Allies from Nazi Germany and just when the war ended he lost his job! He continued to fight communism, wrote six volumes of The Second World War (that are widely read) and go on to win the Nobel peace prize!
Churchill said, "Success consists of going from failure to failure without a loss of enthusiasm."
Many other examples were given and the boys were left soaring on the wings of spiritual hope.
As director of the camp I chose to purchase one hundred twenty copies of Rabbi Shafier's classic Stop Surviving Start Living. It is perfect for counselors, religious kids as well as reader friendly (by using a special glossary) for kids with no background. I intend to have the campers and counselors study this work in their chaburos (groups). Our camp is for the now and the future life of each camper. So is this book!
Together I am very optimistic for their future. Again I wish to express my Hakoras Hatov to Rabbi Shafier
