140 Players, 12 Teams, 50 Coolers of Water, and Lots of Ice Packs
No, it isn’t a special effect out of the movies, but it does seem to be that all participants in Camp Sports seem to walking around in slow motion as we wrap up the first week in Camp Sports, soar from sports but filled with excitement!
Every day begins with Davening, breakfast and two learning sessions led by our incredibly talented, and dedicated advisor staff. At Camp Sports, we have decided to focus on Prayer, Tefillah. Advisors, together with their group of 3-4 campers, will go through different sources, materials and explanations about why we daven, the meaning behind the words, and the laws. Each Camper was given a binder, that is theirs to keep at the end of the summer, which will be filled with all of the sources and materials that they used throughout the summer. The goal being, the kids will know what they learned, and hopefully walk away with a more meaningful approach and attitude toward improving their own Davening. During the second learning groups, each of the groups learn from whatever topic they want, some about laws, some philosophy, some Talmud, and whatever issues they campers want to learn about Judaism’s approach!
After lunch, sports begins. Everyone boards the buses, and we head out to the nearby fields for Soccer, Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee, Football and Softball. Although its hot, it never stops the enthusiasm or the excitement of the kids and staff! Kids play hard, tough, but Middot and Mentschlechkeit don’t stop in the Beis Medrash, they are right there on the Courts as the kids and staff, whether they win or lose, play together and no one is ever criticized or insulted for not playing well!
At the end of the day, every had an amazing time, sore muscles and tired limbs, but huge smiles on their faces!
